Erlang Capacity of a CDMA Link with Transmission Rate Control

چکیده
Regulating the transmission rate of non real-time applications offers enhanced flexibility for QoS management and capacity control on a CDMA link. For a system working at saturation conditions, i.e., with the highest number of on-going transmissions, controlling data rates can further enhance its capacity. A more thorough investigation of this possibility and the trade-offs involved is presented in this paper. By an analytic modeling, the Erlang capacity of a CDMA link is studied when modifying the physical transmission rates on the link. The analysis is extended to an asymptotic scaling regime. It is shown that the most efficient way of boosting this capacity is by lowering transmission rates, which nevertheless comes at the expense of increased transfer delays and energy consumption.

Capacity of multiservice WCDMA networks with variable GoS
Traditional definitions of capacity of CDMA networks are either related to the number of calls they can handle (pole capacity) or to the arrival rate that guarantees that the rejection rate (or outage) is below a given fraction (Erlang capacity). We extend the latter definition to other quality of service (QoS). We consider best-effort (BE) traffic sharing the network resources with real-time (...

Some studies have been done on capacity of a code division multiple access (CDMA) system with mixed multirate sources. However, a vast majority of these studies have concentrated on the reverse link. This trend comes from the fact that the capacity of a CDMA system is reverse-link limited. However, forward link can be a limiting link because emerging data services are likely to require higher d...
متن کاملReverse link erlang capacity of multiclass CDMA cellular system considering nonideal antenna sectorization
In this paper, the effect of antenna sectorization in the reverse link Erlang capacity of a multiclass code-division multiple-access (CDMA) cellular system is studied. Traditionally, it has been considered that the capacity is multiplied by a factor equal to the number of sectors introduced. This is true only in the ideal antenna sectored system. However, due to the nonideal antenna radiation p...

One of the key technologies used in broadband wireless networks, such as HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) and mobile WiMAX networks, is link adaptation. Link adaptation is implemented by an Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) scheme which adapts a user’s transmission data rate to its radio conditions on its channel quality feedback to optimize resource utilization. In wireless network...
متن کاملIncreasing the CDMA reverse link voice-data capacity using a per rate class interference method with optimal spatial combining
The voice Krlang capacity is analyzed ID a imiliiaotenna combined voice-data CDMA Reverse Link (RL). The influence of two different spatial combining techniques: Optimal Combining (OC) and Maximal Ratio Combining (MRO) on the voice Erlangs is evaluated when a single scheduled High Data Rate (HDR) data channel is shared by users desiring HDR services. The impact of randomly arriving data users o...
